BSG Cast & Taken Alumnus

Taken 2002 Mini-Series

I’ve been re-watching “Taken” a 2002 mini-series, and I’m having a blast picking out minor characters from “Battlestar Glactica”.

Clearly Sy Fy (formerly Sci Fi and known fondly as Skiffy) has a pool of talent they dip into for everything.

I’ve spotted Fergersky, Zak Adama, Socinus, the woman, King and Felix Gaeta (traitorous jackass), the doctor who see’s Allie in Part 10 of the series… did anyone else spot any others?

You might of missed this mini-series, but it’s pretty good. Dakato Fanning’s Allie, and her monologues are very good. I quite enjoyed it, and I watched the whole thing on the then-Sci Fi channel. One thing, I cannot stand the performance of the actress who plays Mary Crawford. She overacts and her attempts at ’sultry maniacal vixen’ miss the mark so often. A very hollow performance. Yet, overall, the series is very well acted and the special effects pretty good for television and 2002.

Welcome Back V… Let’s have a look atcha!

Although I know many of you within Barbados (possibly the Caribbean) and who are slaves to C&W cannot access this content, I still want to share it with you. Anyone watch this one as a child? My brother and I were g.l.u.e.d. to the TV on Saturday afternoons, engrossed in this story (told cheesily, I admit) and I still remember the plot (if not all the details) very well. Fascinating that this show is being revived…

As a side note: Can I just say, that any reason whatsoever to see more Morris Chestnut on my screen is a good reason. From first time, to last time, I think that man is just delicious to the eye.

Why Gatea reminds me of Anakin Skywalker Right Now

Great review over at The Guardian, and I loved the questions at the end. My answer to the last he asked:

To me it looked like Gaeta was moving towards how Anakin Skywalker was at the end of Attack of the Clones, with his own cybernetic arm. I knew then he had begun to cross over, and take on Vader’s mantle.

More to the point, I now find Gaeta repugnant, and that’s how I felt about Anakin’s character by then as well (but how much that has to do with Hayden Christiansen’s abominable acting skills, or the character’s inevitable slide towards evil and wickedness I can’t say precisely.)

Battlestar Galactica: season four, episode 14

This week, space battle takes a back seat to human drama. Or Cylon drama. It gets confusing sometimes, and not just for Chief

SO Say We All (UPDATE: I Made The List)

names_jan26.gif

Grant posted an update to the So Say We All project status, and YAY! he got my entry!

So I’m on the list, and going into the PDF. :) I so, so, so hope that the cast get a chance to read it. I am very excited to be a part of it!

Just in case you missed my earlier posts, Grant over over at Battle Star Blog, a community blog hosted on Live Journal, is preparing a PDF of fan thank yous to send to the cast and crew of Battlestar Galactica.

I love Battlestar Blog @ LJ. In my opinion, it’s one of the finer BSG communities out there, and it is in fact the sole reason I am maintaining my LJ account. I have my LJ account set up to post my status updates through ping.fm, but I haven’t written in it since 2007.

I don’t like LJ’s blogging engine and the limits they place on templating, or for that matter their templating system at all.

But this one community, keeps me coming back, because you can be assured of news, commentary, theories and SPOILERS! (Sorry, I am a spoiler addict.)

Grant also manages to get exclusive interviews, Q&As and runs competitions from time to time, as well as presenting us with awesome opportunities like being able to participate in this project.

So from me to Grant and to the whole Battlestar Blog Community, thanks for making it such a cool place to visit and read. (Besides, with RSS feeds, I don’t need to go to LJ unless I want to post a comment, or read comments… :)

So Say We All: BSG Thank You (A Follow Up)

My Official Entry:

Name: Ndelamiko Lord Location: Barbados Other Info: Writer/Web Developer

Specific actor/crew thank you notes:

Ronald D. Moore – Your story rocks. I think it’s fabulous work, and I appreciate your efforts to make TV watchable.

Katee Sackhoff – I was in love with Dirk Benedict’s Starbuck, I wanted to have his babies when I was seven. You took the role and made it your own in the face of his criticism. Good on you for that. You deserve accolades for your work as Starbuck, and even though you may not have gotten them like I would have liked, I’d like to offer you this anecdote: In Barbados, where I grew up, there is a man called Richard Stoute. For decades he has hosted a Teen Talent contest and almost every musical artist of note (and many of no note at all) have passed through the ranks of his show. Winning the Teen Talent Contest is a big thing here, however, the artists who have gone on to do bigger and better and whose names are out there in the world, never won that competition. This may mean diddly squat to you, or maybe you know this already, but about you and for you, I sense bigger and better roles coming. It is my greatest wish to see you age onscreen, in amazing performance after amazing performance. I don’t care they never gave you important statues for your stellar work as Starbuck, burn me though it has from time to time. Keep going, your best is yet ahead!

Aaron Douglas – I love your portrayal of the Chief. I loved and am loving how his character has developed. You did such a wonderful job.

Michael Hogan – Never has crusty bastard looked or played better. I had never heard or seen you before on any television show I can remember (Canadian TV and films rarely makes it to the Caribbean) BUT, BUT, I will NEVER forget your name now. How do you make one eye emote so eloquently? HOW?

General thank you note:

You guys did something amazing in my life. You made me believe that amazing television was still possible. I gave up on it in 1997, and have rarely watched any show with any regularity, but this show glued me to the television and made my heart race before every premiere! Thank you for that! Thank YOU!

Blessings and Good Things!

Our Beloved “Capricans” Of The RTF

starbuck.jpg

As usual, I can always find someone writing about Battlestar Galactica who makes a comment that shows me that they are completely in disregard of BSG cannon.

It is definitely going to be a harrowing ride over the next few weeks, as I’m sure we will witness more of the fallout from our beloved Capricans’ shattered dreams. Who will rise to the occasion, pull themselves up by their boot straps, and try to grab onto some hope in this despair? Admiral Adama appears to be on that road after descending into his own pit of darkness. Roslin, after burning what is essentially her Bible, clings to a fragment of plant-life from the barren planet. Who will be shattered, and who will prevail? It will be painful to watch, my friends, but riveting television nonetheless.

My comment in the blog:

Dude, they’re not just Capricans. They come from all over the 12 Colonies..

‘Battlestar Galactica’: Exclusive photos from the set of ‘Sometimes a Great Notion’

katee_greets_schoolchildren.jpg

I love the behind the scenes shot of the filming of last week’s episode posted at the L.A. Times. I love the sense of community you get from the photos, and in particular this one of Katee Sackhoff greeting and meeting a gaggle of school children.

Sackhoff has been listed elsewhere as being the person on the cast most unlike her character. In interviews, she very often comes off as sweet and bubbly, and you can see how diametrically different that is to the character she plays.

In this photo, not to sound corny, but I can pick up on the energy of the moment. You know she was there cracking jokes and fielding questions.

The episode was directed by Michael Nankin who earlier sent us a nice gallery of behind-the-scenes photos from Season 2 of “BSG” and now he has given us some more set photos, these all from the Vancouver shoot of Friday night’s “Sometimes a Great Notion” episode. The captions are from Nankin and all of the shots were from the camera of Paul Sanchez Yates.

So Say We All: A THANK YOU

bsg_sswa_title_200.jpg

Grant the moderator of my FAVOURITE BSG community online, Battlestar Blog over at LiveJournal.com, is putting together a fan thank-you book/pdf for the cast and crew of BSG. I think it’s a fabulous idea, and Grant always has the coolest stuff going over there.

He posts some info:

What’s this all about?

I’m putting together a “Fan Appreciation PDF” — a compilation of thank you letters written by all of YOU (and all BSG fans are welcome to participate – This isn’t just limited to Battlestar Blog). Once I have everyone’s submissions and the PDF’s assembled, it’ll be sent to all cast and crew members of Battlestar Galactica!

How is this possible, you ask? I’ve been speaking with someone at Universal who works directly with Ron Moore & Co. (it’s the same person I worked with regarding my artwork in the Cast & Crew Book, so don’t worry – they’re legit), and they’ve generously offered to forward the PDF along to everyone involved. :)

So this is your chance to give your own personal thanks to the actors, directors, producers, writers, and everyone else who’s helped bring our favorite show to life. (And, of course, the PDF will be available to all fans as well.)

The Fifth Cylon Revealed

Ellen Tigh: The Fifth Cylon

I am still completely dazed from last night’s premiere of the last ten episodes of ‘The Best Show On Television’.

And while the reveal of Ellen as the final Cylon, does explain her sudden and suspicious appearance in Episode 9 of Season 1, “Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down”, she was not my first pick for the Fifth. However, she does make sense and suddenly, Tigh (my absolute favourite character on BSG behind Starbuck, and Tyrol who are one and two respectively) and the self-torturing he puts himself through, the twisted encrusted relationship he had with Ellen, and their escape into alcohol, MAKE SENSE.

I am also still burnt and twisted by Dee’s death. I think she took the punk way out, because I never, ever think suicide is a solution. As depressing as what they found on ‘Earth’ was, you can be sure the next clue to where they were supposed to go next is right around the corner.

Kudos to RDM and DE though. The moment when she took that wedding ring off, and hung it up… then, then… I can’t even type it. I just felt like someone had punched me in the gut… it took the wind right out of me. How do you write shit like that?

I can’t FRAKKIN WAIT until next week.

I tried to stay up last night for someone to post the torrent, but at 2 A.M. I conked out. This morning, TWELVE torrents were posted, and EZTV’s had something like 1500 seeders. WOW! So you know Big Mami watching and re-watching non-stop until next week. TYPICAL.

This was an AMAZING episode! Easily among the best I’ve seen.

‘Battlestar Galactica’: Kate Vernon reveals a Cylonic secret

Back from the dead for Season 4, Vernon’s Ellen Tigh is indeed among the warring dirty dozen.

By Geoff Boucher

January 17, 2009

Like a veteran of the witness protection program, actress Kate Vernon picked a secluded corner table of a very public restaurant for the meeting. She studied the tape recorder sitting next to her teacup on the table and then glanced around the Studio City bistro to see if anyone was eavesdropping. ‘Forgive me if I’m a little awkward talking about it,’ Vernon said during an interview earlier this week. ‘It’s been two years that I’ve been sitting on this secret, and after that long it’s kind of hard to just start talking . . . ‘”
