BSG Cast & Taken Alumnus

Taken 2002 Mini-Series

I’ve been re-watching “Taken” a 2002 mini-series, and I’m having a blast picking out minor characters from “Battlestar Glactica”.

Clearly Sy Fy (formerly Sci Fi and known fondly as Skiffy) has a pool of talent they dip into for everything.

I’ve spotted Fergersky, Zak Adama, Socinus, the woman, King and Felix Gaeta (traitorous jackass), the doctor who see’s Allie in Part 10 of the series… did anyone else spot any others?

You might of missed this mini-series, but it’s pretty good. Dakato Fanning’s Allie, and her monologues are very good. I quite enjoyed it, and I watched the whole thing on the then-Sci Fi channel. One thing, I cannot stand the performance of the actress who plays Mary Crawford. She overacts and her attempts at ’sultry maniacal vixen’ miss the mark so often. A very hollow performance. Yet, overall, the series is very well acted and the special effects pretty good for television and 2002.

Aboriginal Horrors VS KFC Supposed Racism

Aborigines participated in the opening of Aussie Parliment for the 1st time in 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tears, dances as Aborigines make history in parliament http://bit.ly/86uGsO

Every so often, some stupid shit pops up and I find the contrast between sense and nonsense just so glaring and pronounced, it warrants a comment. Fireal…

Me ain’t know about you, but apparently a furor has been brewing for a week or so about a ‘racist’ KFC ad aired in Australia. Being interested in Down Under (have no idea why, but I love the country, the Aborigines, the accent, and the insouciance of the Aussie character) and having several friends either originating from there, or currently residing there, I clicked this link in @mashable’s twitter timeline, and read their non-commentary about KFC’s embroiling by the American public taking offense to this ad.

Video – Growing Hope in Northern Manitoba Communities | ndelamiko.com

I just added a wonderful clip to the video section, showing how communities in Northern Canada are taking back their food security and how community gardens and gardening are changing the dynamics of their daily lives.

I think this is excellent watching for those of us in the ‘developing world’ whose food security is dependent on Barbados Shipping and Trading.

Excellent watch, and I found it on the most excellent site: http://intercontinentalcry.org/

Welcome Back V… Let’s have a look atcha!

Although I know many of you within Barbados (possibly the Caribbean) and who are slaves to C&W cannot access this content, I still want to share it with you. Anyone watch this one as a child? My brother and I were g.l.u.e.d. to the TV on Saturday afternoons, engrossed in this story (told cheesily, I admit) and I still remember the plot (if not all the details) very well. Fascinating that this show is being revived…

As a side note: Can I just say, that any reason whatsoever to see more Morris Chestnut on my screen is a good reason. From first time, to last time, I think that man is just delicious to the eye.

Mansa Musa in Tribute To Ogun

Meh horse Ozy shared this on my FB page this afternoon.

At first, I was elated! Estatic to find Daddy on youTube, but I played the clip and my grief rushed over me and instead of hearing Mansa Musa, master drummer for the Orishas, professional rebel, original loudmouth, educator, musician, playwright, I heard my DADDY.

And I missed him, I miss him… I miss my Papi.

Dreaming Big, Head Bopping, Locks Flying

oshun_buntyThis morning, after dropping the Lil King off to school, and I was walking up Deacon’s Road to go fight up with the damned ZRs, I chose this song to be my soundtrack.

I bopped up the road, locks flying as my head invariably bounced, and more than once I belted out the lyrics as the busy road flowed past me, around me, and never touched me.

I am dreaming big today… Read more…

Humble Guy

Guy Kawasaki

Guy Kawasaki

Ahhh… Robin Caldwell and I have the same geek crush (but I guess she has seniority)! Great interview with Guy Kawasaki.

I love that he talks about his past stuff in this offhand way. He’s a really humble man on the real…

I also think it’s very cool that he’s still inventing things, still working on new ideas and innovating even as he matures.

He definitely is my favourite geek. Interview under the cut. Read more…

The Aborigines Say We Dreamed The Universe Into Existence

tucknpattidreamThis album, “Dream” by Tuck and Patti, I found on sale at No. 1 Record Shop, Independence Square in Barbados, for some stupid money–like less than $10DBS. I was 17 years old, and a rabid consumer of new-to-me music. I was still finding my tastes where music was concerned, and although much had already been set in stone, I was still wide open to everything I heard.

I plunked down the stupid money, took it home, and fell in love with it. It is one of those albums I consider seminal in my own personal development, and this album never, ever, ever fails to rejuvenate my spirit.

Tuck’s inimitable guitar-playing style, Patti’s rich like Bailey’s voice, and their unbelievable lyrical content, makes this among the albums I have 1) never lost or misplaced in 18 years 2) one of my all time favourite collections.

Video & lyrics under the cut.

É d’Oxum

mam_e_oxum1(Gerônimo & Vevé Calazans)

Nessa cidade todo mundo é d’Oxum

Homem, menino, menina, mulher

Toda a cidade irradia magia

Presente na água doce

Presente na água salgada

E toda a cidade brilha

In this city we are all Oxum’s

Man, boy, girl, woman

The entire city radiates magic

Present in the sweet water

Present in the salt water

And the entire city shines

Seja tenente ou filho de pescador

Ou importante desembargador

Se der presente é tudo uma coisa só

A força que mora n’água

Não faz distinção de cor

E toda a cidade é d’Oxum

Whether lieutenent or a fisherman’s son

Or an important judge

If a present is given we are all the same

The force that lives in the water

Doesn’t doesn’t distinguish between our colors

And the entire city is Oxum’s…

Death To IE6!

“IE6 is the new Netscape 4. The hacks needed to support IE6 are increasingly viewed as excess freight. Like Netscape 4 in 2000, IE6 is perceived to be holding back the web.”
